Amanda Young

Children's author & legal assistant, Harrodsburg, Kentucky

Amanda Young is a children’s author, legal assistant and mom. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University. When she isn’t creating stories, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and reading. She lives with her husband, daughter and dogs in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

What inspired Amanda to start writing children’s books was a difficult postpartum journey after having her daughter. Recovering from a second surgery at 10 days post-partum, Amanda started telling stories to her daughter while feeding and rocking her. Her stories were inspired by the antics of her family’s dogs. With encouragement from her family, Amanda wrote her stories down and in 2026 she sent them to a publisher with hope and a prayer. The rest is history!

Amanda attributes her writing to God, for blessing her with a daughter after years of infertility. Without her little blessing, none of these books would be possible. She also thanks her husband for his unwavering support through her postpartum journey and writing these books. She also thanks her parents, especially her mother, for encouraging her to write and for being the support during her difficult postpartum misadventure. She couldn’t have done it without you.

  • Every human character in the book is named after someone in Amanda's real family.
  • Polly the basset hound is real, and just as fond of napping as she is in the book.
  • Amanda studied at Morehead State University before her career in legal work and, later, children's books.
